Simone Simonton is a dynamic, versatile drummer/songwriter living in Nashville, TN.
Simone was given her first drum kit when she was seven, so from an early age she trained herself to master timing, dynamics, space and arrangement by playing along to her parents' albums. Her drumming influences include Buddy Rich, Jon Bonham, Stewart Copeland, Phil Collins and Dave Grohl to name just a few. Fast forward decades later, and she has certainly developed an infectious, high-spirited stage persona, deep pocket groove and the appreciation of a well-written song.
Simone moved to Atlanta in the early 1990s after graduating with a Music Performance Degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She began her professional music career touring with the Indigo Girls, earning album credits as a drummer/percussionist. She spent the mid to late '90s drumming for the indie rock band LIFT, recording, touring and co-writing music/lyrics. In 2002, Simone co-founded the Multi-Platinum group Sugarland, co-writing the songs Baby Girl, Down in Mississippi, Speed of Life, Fly Away – from their debut album Speed Of Life. Following her recording, touring and songwriting experiences with Sugarland, Simone started her own country rock band, South 70, where she was the drummer and primary songwriter until moving to Nashville in 2012. Since moving to Nashville, she has mainly been writing and drumming with country artist Drew Baldridge, playing The Grand Ole Opry and popular music festivals such as CMA Music Festival, Country USA, CMC Rocks in Australia, Tortuga Music Festival, Windy City Smokeout and Route 91 Harvest Festival. Simone also co-wrote the song Rebound (Drew Baldridge, feat. Emily Weisband), receiving over 21 million streams on Spotify and reaching #47 on Billboard Country charts.
"I'm the oldest of six, growing up on a rural Southern Illinois farm where my family still owns and runs a fifth generation sawmill. My parents have always been encouraging, nurturing and respectful of my talent . My siblings and I were raised to honor freedom and discipline, and taught to understand the value and necessity of both. My drive, passion and creativity are a reflection of growing up surrounded by love, hard work, having dreams and taking risks to pursue those dreams. It’s who I am, and those ingredients are definitely alive in my drumming and songwriting”.
• I played the song for my drummer, Simone Simonton, and she said, "Man, that’s so good, but what if we changed ..." because I had the B section after the chorus -- where Emily’s singing, it was me singing, and I was singing different words. She said, "What if we changed that?" And Emily’s actually saying something like, "She’s tempting you." I said, "Oh my gosh, that’s such a great idea." - The Boot - Story Behind The Song: Drew Baldridge, 'Rebound'
• Oh, did I mention the drummer, Simone Simonton? She was amazing! I mean she could flat out play. She played her heart out the entire show and her drum solo was one of the highlights of that evening for me! - Kreuzer's Korner (Artist Spotlight: Drew Baldridge)
